Verify:
- Agent policies can’t be edited by too many admins
- Update repositories are authenticated and access-logged
- DNS/proxy rules won’t let endpoints “fail open” to random sources

Source code theft often turns into pressure: “Pay or we leak,” or “Run this tool to confirm you’re safe.” Your response can’t be invented in the moment.
Set a simple playbook now:
- If contacted, route everything to one intake path
- A single monitored mailbox/queue and a single incident phone bridge
- Preserve evidence immediately
- Email headers, chat logs, voicemail recordings
- Any linked URLs, attachments, and the exact time received
- Define comms ownership
- Legal, security, PR/comms, and an exec approver
- A clear “we don’t negotiate via email/chat” rule for staff
- Set internal guidance
- No one runs “vendor validation scripts” or “emergency hotfix tools” sent via email
- All vendor actions must map to a ticket and a change record, even when it’s urgent
