MY DATA, ACT!
For years, we’ve asked corporations to be responsible for our data and to keep us safe by protecting our personal information – to no avail. The astounding increase in mega data breaches, the unfettered sale of personal data by data brokers, and the introduction of artificial intelligence without privacy guardrails all prove that this is not – and has not been – a sustainable approach to improving data privacy and personal safety.
Inspired by 18 months of meeting with policymakers and the introduction of the Manage Your Data and Allow Only Trusted Access (MY DATA) Act of 2025 bill (H.R. 6043) by Representative Lori Trahan, Cloaked’s My Data, Act! campaign champions consumer privacy rights by galvanizing our community and advocating for the first federal policy to put consumer data privacy rights front and center.

ABOUT THE MY DATA ACT OF 2025
This bill entrenches consumers' right to choose how their personal information is shared. It ensures individuals’ rights to use privacy-enhancing tools – like identifiers and “cloaked” data – to protect personal information while having real interactions and communications with companies on the internet, or in real life, with the information one chooses to divulge. At the same time, it prevents businesses from refusing to provide services to individuals who utilize these privacy-enhancing tools.
Because of its focus, the bill accomplishes three priorities:
- Gives back data control to individuals, ensuring each one of us can choose to use cloaked data when interacting with people and businesses;
- Reduces systemic data-security risks, drastically minimizing the value and risk of personal data held by organizations that fails to be safeguarded, and discouraging bad actors from attacking due to the limited value of “cloaked” data; and,
- Supports innovation in privacy-enhancing technologies by ensuring consumers have the right to use tools to protect themselves and their families, at will.
