When importing logins from another password manager into Cloaked using the Password Manager Importer, you may encounter some issues if the file you're trying to import is not a CSV (Comma Separated Values) file. Cloaked only accepts CSV files for import. Other file types like TXT or alternative delimiters such as tabs and semicolons are not supported. This article will guide you on how to check the file type and change it to a CSV file.

Checking the File Type

Before attempting to import a file, it's essential to ensure that it's in the correct CSV format. Here's how to check the file type on Mac and Windows:

On Mac

  1. Locate the file on your computer.
  2. Click on the file once to select it.
  3. Press Command + I or right-click the file and select "Get Info."
  4. In the "Info" window, look for the "Name & Extension" section. You'll see the file extension right after the file name.

On Windows

  1. Open File Explorer and navigate to the location where the file is saved.
  2. Click on the "View" tab at the top of the File Explorer window.
  3. Check the box next to "File name extensions" to show file extensions.
  4. Locate the file and look at its extension, which appears right after the file name.

Changing the File Type to CSV

If you've confirmed that the file you're trying to import is not a CSV file, follow the steps below to change its file type:

  1. Open the file using a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
  2. Click on "File" in the menu bar.
  3. Select "Save As" or "Download," then choose "CSV" from the available options.
  4. Save the file with a new name, ensuring the file extension is ".csv."

After converting the file to a CSV format, you can now proceed with importing it into Cloaked using the Password Manager Importer.
